I think by now people will be aware of who Ricky Gervais is. He got lucky in the early noughties with the BBC and he’s lingered ever since. Arguably the only funny thing he’s ever done was get Karl Pilkington on a Podcast. My problem with him is not that he’s unfunny, or that he’s arrogant, it’s the fact he’s so aggressively persuing an ignorant stance on religious beliefs.
He calls himself an atheist, which, ordinarily, I would be fine with, even though it’s based on ignorance and misinformation. What he really should call himself is anti-religious. He has used his platform to slander religious beliefs and this to me is anti-religious.
Now, I am not going to sit here and defend Christianity, what I am doing, as a Solaran, is finding the truth. Over the years I have researched faith-based doctrines and I have found a lot of truth in biblical text. I have also found that a lot of people have been severely misinformed on the subject.
Adam and Eve are well known in biblical teachings and it is always used as a gotcha moment. However, over the years, discoveries have been made that point to that being true. Mitochondrial Eve is a new scientific discovery to which all human life can be traced back. There is also Y-chromosomal Adam which every human male can trace back to.
The argument I hear Ricky spout most is Noah, his Ark, and the great flood. I always laugh when he brings it up because in his first sentence it’s already wrong. There were more than two of some the animals. And let us not forget that biblical teachings are centred around one area of the globe. There are some scholars who have recognised that there was more than just Noah’s Ark during the time of the flood. People must remember that the Bible on recounts events in the middle east. They mention nothing of anywhere else.
The phrase that Ricky always says when confronted with these facts is that he believes in the laws of the universe and logic. He’s now so arrogant that he thinks he understands the universe completely. There isn’t a person on this planet who understands the universe completely.
The science of religion is easy to see if you spent a little bit of time doing any research. All life is energy, and what we know of energy is that it cannot be destroyed. Energy can only be converted into something else. I’m not going to say for sure that there is an afterlife in the way people think, but your energy will live beyond your flesh and bones.
A lot of people have biases when they’re in certain fields. A scientist will tell you that energy can’t be destroyed whilst simultaneously telling you that nothing happens when you die. I have no such bias, if it is true, then I accept it to be so. All my research indicates that there is more to the universe than even science can fully explain.
Ricky Gervais once said that he strives to be ‘as arrogant and as stupid’ as Trump. I think he’s achieved that and more. I think anyone with an ounce of intelligence would do their own research before they talk about a subject they know nothing about. Information is at the tip of your finger, please use your phone for something other than pointless Tweets and weird bath selfies.
